Three Capital Vision: The Dream of Decentralized Development

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave Andhra Pradesh a vision of three capitals — Amaravati (legislative), Kurnool (judicial), Visakhapatnam (executive). This vision was not a small thought — it was an effort to think about balanced development for all of AP.

The previous government was focused only on Amaravati — where some people had bought land in advance. Jagan argued that if there is only one capital, development will happen in only one region. All of AP should equally share progress.

Making Visakhapatnam — AP’s industrial hub — the Executive Capital was an economic decision. It has ports, industries, an airport. Shifting power there would bring jobs and investment.

Making Kurnool the Judicial Capital was about giving Rayalaseema its due — a region that had always been ignored.

There were challenges in implementing this vision, but the intention was right. Every region of AP should receive the light of development — this was Jagan’s firm belief.
